Here's how to pick the right jig for your summer bite:
Micro Slow Pitch Jigs (10g–15g)
Best for: Bays, lakes, docks, kayak fishing, warming shallows
Summer fish are active but can get pressured fast in shallow water. Micro slow pitch jigs shine when the bite turns finicky in the heat. Use the Micro Sumo or Micro Mercenary when fish won't chase and need a subtle, controlled flutter. The Ogre Jr and Death Blade add knife-jig action and a cast-and-retrieve element that's deadly around docks, reeds, and shoreline structure.
Summer Tip: Fish early or late when shallows cool down. Slower falls and longer hang time trigger reaction bites from fish holding tight in the shade.
Lightweight Slow Pitch Jigs (20g)
Best for: Deeper pockets, pier pilings, channel edges, light current
As summer heat pushes fish out of the shallows and into cooler, deeper water, lightweight jigs let you cover the transition zone without overpowering the bite. Sumo and Mercenary excel here, especially when you need to stall the jig mid-water or work suspended fish.
Summer Tip: Pause the jig on the fall. Summer fish holding in the thermocline will rise to intercept a stalling jig rather than chase one down.
Middleweight Slow Pitch Jigs (40g–300g)
Best for: Deeper structure, kelp edges, wrecks, stronger current
When summer heat drives fish deep onto structure, middleweights take over. Drop the Ogre, Javelin, or Mercenary through kelp lines, wrecks, and hard bottom to stay vertical and in control as current picks up.
Summer Tip: Match weight to current, not depth. Staying vertical keeps your jig working instead of washing out.
Heavyweight Slow Pitch Jigs (400g–600g)
Best for: Offshore structure, deep rockfish, yellowtail, strong current
Summer offshore fishing means targeting fish that are holding deep and tight to structure. Samurai, Kraken, and Heavy Ogre punch deep with through-wire strength, ribbed glow profiles, and serious stopping power when predators are stacked on bottom.
Summer Tip: Glow still matters in deep summer water. A visible jig keeps getting hit even when light penetration drops off at depth.

This product bundle is awesome. Ive cought so many spotties in the bay and so simple to use. Use as light as possible of a jig and hold on. Drop it and hold on. I read that these jigs can outfish live bait? I'll believe it when I see it for myself!
Well, we went on the lake for Striped Bass. We caught some shad and also had some frozen anchovies, and headed to find the stripers. We found them and started dropping both live shad and cut anchovies. The bite was very slow, so I dropped a 15g Mercenary Stellar Shad, and got a hook up on my second retrieve! I ended up catching 4 stripers versus just 1 caught with live bait! So yes, in this case, the Mercenary jig did outfish live bait! So far, I'm living these jigs!
Great little jigs! It started as a tough night, low tide, at Harbor Island last night. My usual go to swim bait was being ignored by the local spotted bay bass. I decided to switch to a new 10 gram Sumo Submission SLP jig. First cast and I get bit! The Submission Sumo saved the evening! I always carry micro jigs and Submission jigs will now be included in my tackle bag. OSS!

During the 2020 lockdowns, I was grinding the bays of San Diego with a rod in one hand and way too much frustration in the other. I kept tying on slow pitch jigs that looked the part but couldn’t deliver — paint flaked, hooks bent, fish didn’t care. As a lifelong angler and a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, I know success doesn’t come from luck. It comes from reps, precision, and gear you can trust.
So I decided to build my own. That’s how Submission Fishing Co. was born — in a garage, not a boardroom. Every jig we make is tested by me and our crew, built to handle everything from spotted bay bass to offshore bluefin. Just like on the mats, fishing is about putting in the work and seizing the moment.
